Buy property, build houses, manage money and become a board game billionaire!
Monopoly is all about strategy, decision making, critical thinking, and foresight, making it a great game for the classroom. Students will quickly learn the consequences of their actions and see the dynamics that a single decision can have on the rest of the game. Thankfully, the big-time decisions they’ll be making in terms of property purchasing and money management are all just part of the game!
How to Play
The name of the game in Monopoly is to purchase properties around the board so that when other players land on them, they have to pay you rent. Players start with a certain budget of Monopoly money and can spend it however they choose as they take turns rolling and moving around the board. Over time properties can be improved with houses or hotels, which cause rent to go up. Other obstacles around the board such as Chance or Community Chest can reward or penalize players in different ways, while certain spaces can have players sitting in jail or transporting around the board without even rolling!
Players will find that over the course of the game they begin to make and lose money in larger volumes, based on their holdings. The player who runs out of money will have to start mortgaging properties and once that’s impossible, they’re eliminated from the game! The player left standing at the end with the most money and properties is the winner.
