Provides highly accurate measurements, making it a NTEP Class III certifiable scale.

Provides body fat and weight readings using foot-to-foot bioelectrical impedance analysis for wrestling weigh-ins. Prints out weight to 0.2 lb, body fat to 0.1%, fat mass/fat-free mass to 0.2 lb, total body water to 0.2 lb, and basal metabolic rate. Goal Setter calculates fat mass needed to lose to reach specified goal. Standard, Athlete, and Wrestler modes. NTEP Class III certifiable. Weight-only feature. Port for computer. 440 lb weight capacity. Includes 6 AA batteries and one 25-ft roll of paper. 25 lb.

About Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)
BIA is considered one of the most reliable and accessible methods of screening body fat. BIA measures the impedance (or resistance) to an electric signal as it travels through the water in muscle and fat. The more muscle a person has, the more water their body can hold; the greater the amount of water, the easier it is for the current to pass through it. The more fat a person has, the more resistance the current will encounter. BIA is safe, and the signal used in body fat monitors cannot be felt at all.

The TBF-300A uses a new way of measuring BIA that is faster, easier and less intrusive than conventional electrode methods. It also includes a precision scale to make measuring body composition and weight a simple one-step process. The user enters age, gender and height, then steps onto the platform. Electrodes in the foot sensor pads send a low, safe signal through the body. Weight is calculated automatically, along with body fat content.

Accurate Body Composition Analysis in Less than 10 Seconds
Combining user-entered input (including gender, age, body type, height, clothes weight, and target body fat %) and foot-to-foot BIA, the TBF-300A accurately determines body composition in less than ten seconds:

  • Weight – Calculated in kilograms or pounds. Weight capacity up to 440 lb.
  • Body Fat – The percentage of total body weight that is comprised of fat.
  • Fat Mass – Total weight of fat mass (in kg or lb) in the body.
  • Fat-Free Mass – Measures muscle, bone, tissue, water and all other fat-free mass in the body.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) – A height to weight ratio, calculated by the following formula:

Weight (kg)
Height (m2)        Desirable range: 18.5–24.9

  • Total Body Water – The amount of water (expressed as lb or kg) retained in the body. TBW is said to comprise between 50-70% of total body weight. Generally, men tend to have higher water weight than women, due to a greater amount of muscle.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate – Represents the total energy expended by the body to maintain normal functions at rest, such as respiration and circulation.
  • Impedance – Reflects the body's inherent resistance to an electrical current. Muscle acts as a conductor of current; adipose (fat) tissue acts as a resistor.
  • Predicted Weight – The calculated weight for the given target body fat percentage.
  • Predicted Fat Mass – Calculated fat mass for the given target body fat percentage.
  • Fat to Lose/Gain – The calculated fat mass to lose or gain in order to achieve the Predicted Weight.
  • Wrestler Mode – Automatically calculates the Minimum Wrestling Weight (MWW) using the methodology adopted in the 1998 NCAA Weight Management Guidelines. The 1996 ACSM Position Stand "Weight loss in Wrestlers," as adopted by the NCAA, recommends 5% minimum body fat for collegiate athletes; 7% for high school athletes.

Athlete Body Type

Select "Athlete" mode for a person who is involved in intense physical activity of at least 10 hours per week and has a resting heart rate of approximately 60 BPM or less. Includes "lifetime of fitness" individuals who have been fit for years, but currently exercise less than 10 hours per week. Does not include beginners who have begun exercising at least 10 hours per week, but whose bodies have not yet changed to require the Athlete mode.

Goal Setter Mode
Lets user create healthy target percentage body fat levels and measure progress toward goal.

Wrestler Mode
Automatically calculates the Minimum Wrestling Weight (MWW) as a predetermined minimum body fat percent. The 1996 ACSM Position Stand "Weight Loss in Wrestlers," as adopted by the NCAA, recommends 5% minimum body fat for collegiate athletes; 7% for high school athletes.

Printer Paper
Includes one 25' roll of paper; refills sold separately. Automatic paper feeder makes changes fast and simple. Or, if preferred, user can press the "CE" key to perform measurements without generating a printout.

Maintenance/Recalibration
The only required maintenance is regular cleaning of the footpads with alcohol for hygienic purposes and glass cleaner to keep them shiny (always apply to a cloth first and then to the product; avoid soaps).

Recalibration may be needed if an "Error" or "Sub" code appears on the readout; the digital display might not "zero out" after your last measurement; or the results might be erratic and non-repeatable.
