When will my district have funding available?

The funding is being rolled out to districts but can take some time. You should check with your district’s purchasing department or administrator to see if funds have been awarded yet.

How can funding be used for Physical Education?

Federal funding is not limited and can be used for Physical Education. Here are a few ideas to help you get started!

When do the funds have to be spent?

CARES (ESSER) funding, which passed legislation in March 2020, must be spent by September 30, 2022

The ESSER II funding, which passed legislation in December 2020, must be spent by September 30, 2023

The ESSER III funding, which passed in March 2021, must be spent by September 30, 2023

Did every district receive this federal funding?

Funding is being allocated based on the proportion of funding your district receives through Title 1 of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015.

Did private schools receive funding?

Yes, private schools may have received funding as well. The CRRSA Act includes a separate program of Emergency Assistance for Non-Public School.

Eligible non-public schools may apply to an SEA (state education agency) to receive funds for assistance. They can learn more on their state DOE website.

Who should I talk to within my district about federal funding?

Find your district PE leader and demand a seat at the table when funding decisions are being made. If you don’t have a district PE leader, we encourage you to ask your administration or purchasing department to see if funds have been distributed to your district yet and how they plan on utilizing them.

How much money has been distributed to my district?

Many districts have already received federal funding. Here is a breakdown (Last Updated November 2020) of funding distributed and spent at the state and district level.
