Tips to Stay Inspired in PE

Today on the PE Express podcast, I’m going to share how I stay inspired and encourage you to get involved.

Today I want to share with you how I stay inspired and hope to encourage you to get more involved. 2019 brings on my 15th year of Teaching Physical Education. That’s pretty hard for me to believe. I’ve been teaching for as long as I have. For me, the years have gone by rather quickly. Okay. Some more slow than others, but it’s that time of year where a lot of teachers find the time dragging on. Our kids feel it, you feel it. I find myself needing inspiration, so where do I get it from? I lean on my professional community and seek out other individuals who have a passion for sharing their ideas, whether it’s through social media outlets, blogs, or podcasts. As physical educators, we have one of the most passionate and willing to share professional communities than in any other field. I surround myself with a network of people who are passionate, people who go above and beyond and people who don’t let each other fail.

Physical Education Professional Development

We need each other and we find inspiration in each other. I am blessed that my school allows me to attend our state conference every year and our great state of Texas puts on one of the best attending TAHPERD, Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance conferences and workshops is one of the best way to gather new ideas and to see what’s the latest and greatest trends in our profession. Being a part of such a wonderful organization not only gives me the inspiration I need, it also gives me the opportunity to serve in a greater capacity like presenting or sharing my passion with others in our profession. I always leave these conferences meeting tons of new people and feeling inspired to add onto our current program. This type of energy and drive to achieve better is what helps create successful programs. Isn’t that what we all want, is a successful Physical Education program?

I strive to grow and stay current in our profession because our students deserve it. To me, PE is so much more than just fun and games. It’s developing the whole child. It’s teaching life lessons and it’s inspires students to become lifelong learners and movers. I believe that every successful educator never stops learning. That is why I feel it’s so important to stay actively involved in your profession by attending professional development and being a part of an organization that advocates for physical education. How do you answer these questions:

  • Are you involved in a professional community?
  • Do you stay current in our profession?
  • Do you attend professional development regularly?

My hope is that you answered yes to all three of these questions, but if not, I challenge you this, get whether it be locally or at the state or national level, so let’s inspire each other. Get involved attend professional development regularly and stay active in your professional community. Thanks for listening.
