How to Play Bocce
Our bocce balls sets includes 8 balls and a smaller target. To start, a player tosses the target ball, then other players take turns underhand tossing their team’s ball to attempt to get as close as possible to the target. Players score points for each ball that is closer to the target than the closest ball of the opposing team. The first team to 16 points is the winner. The game is excellent for improving hand-eye coordination.
All of the bocce balls are made with such durable materials that it is recommended to play outdoors on grass or turf. The balls need resistance to stop rolling, and playing on a gym floor could result in damage to the floors.
The Prima set comes with a lightweight resin ball that is non-intimidating for beginners and easy to grip with smaller hands. Younger players, ages 6-12, will appreciate the lighter, softer construction as they work on developing their technique for the game.
The other 2 sets, the Medio (for ages 8 and up) and Professionale (for ages 12 and up), have balls made of a heavy-duty urethane that will last for institutional and official play. These balls also feature throwing stripes that can help players with tossing feedback and ball rotation and spin during play.
The Prima ball weighs 1 lb 9 oz, the Medio weighs 2 lb 6 oz, and the Professionale weighs 2 lb. 11 oz.
